Roadside Guidance

I have always been drawn to thought-provoking statements and have a deep and abiding appreciation of the power of words. I especially enjoy perusing bumper stickers on the vehicles I encounter while out and about. This got me to thinking that in addition to my digital blog, these monthly rants, I could do something more to get people to think, and maybe act. My idea, which I call the word project, was to create a roadside sign on my property that passing travelers could see. I wanted the word on the sign, which is six feet wide and I change monthly, to cause contemplation. Who put the sign up? Why? What does it mean? The first two you already know. As for what the word means, well it will likely mean something different to every person, may have more than one meaning and the meaning may change over time. Words have that potential, and we all have different experiences that help us form our thinking and beliefs (e.g., no two people read the same book). The words, representing various parts of speech, hopefully will help those who notice to think, to wonder, to question. Words have that power, but they are just words. Action (i.e., making a difference) is the real goal. Pay attention.
